General Secretary of ASPECT (Association of Professionals in Education & Children's Trusts)

John is General Secretary of Aspect. He has a degree in law from London University and has worked as a full-time trade union official representing the interests of professional and managerial employees in the public, private and voluntary sectors for over 30 years.

John also co-chairs the Children's Services Professionals' Network, which is supported by twelve different professional bodies and associations across the children's services arena. The Network is regularly consulted by the DCSF and the Children's Workforce Development Council over children's workforce developments. He is a member of the National Children and Young People's Workforce Partnership, which is the new permanent form of the DCSF Secretary of State, Ed Balls' recent Expert Group on the Children's Workforce and is also a member of the Key Partners Group of the government's new Social Care Taskforce.
