What is the Leading Aspect Award?
The Leading Aspect Award has been designed with, and by, educational
practitioners as a means to recognise leading practice that exists in schools,
families of schools, Higher and Further Education Institutions, Behaviour
Support Services, Foster Care, Secure Accommodation, in fact anywhere where
leading practice exists and which may or may not have been recognised.
The DfES is committed to supporting the Leading Aspect Award, as it fits well
with the 'Leading Practice' identified in the document the DfES 'Excellence and
Enjoyment, A Strategy for Primary Schools'. The Department recognises the
need for sharing leading practice and see the Leading Aspect Award as an
invaluable tool to promote this strategy.
The flexibility of this award acknowledges the diversity to select the area to
be accredited and to tailor it to the individual setting. This positive
application process is in 3 parts and should take as little as 2 hours to
complete the initial application. The application asks for 8
criteria that demonstrate examples of activities and evidence.
Since the start of this award approximately 600 providers of
education from all over the country have achieved a Leading Aspect
Award and their case studies are displayed on
this website so all may share and exchange leading practice.
Over 65 LAs are actively involved in the promotion of the Leading
Aspect Award with over 160 verifiers from around the country.
Our Board consists of leading
educationalists such as Professor
Tim Brighouse, Chief Adviser for London Schools, Sir Mike Tomlinson, MBE, DfES and
Mick Waters, Director of Curriculum, QCA.
